Palace Theatre site rated ‘excellent’ after Considerate Constructor inspection
Swansea County Council are trusting us to restore Palace Theatre to its former glory and create a great community space for the people of Swansea. We reward this trust by keeping disruption to a minimum and being generous and considerate neighbours.
Cleanup was the first order of business, to make the building safe for surveyors and demolition teams. Then we established safe access routes throughout, and we finalized emergency/fire safety plans. As an evolving project, we wanted to make sure that we are doing the best job possible – so we invited Considerate Construction Scheme representatives to examine our site.
At the end of September, we were thrilled to receive the final result of the evaluation done by a Considerate Constructors Scheme representative – an Excellent overall rating with a score of 42 out of a maximum of 45.
This shows that our team care for the environment, respect the community and value each other’s safety and wellbeing. Considering the many workstreams, tradespeople, subcontractors, government bodies involved in the refurbishment of this Listed gem, as well as the many neighbours we collaborate with to keep their activity going disruption-free, this is an excellent achievement for our Project Team, led on site by Robert Theophile.
A lot of the work completed so far is to make sure the structure of Palace Theatre is safe to work in, and that starting work won’t damage the existing features of the building further. While the building is unoccupied, considering with the number of tradespeople working together, it can seem a bit like a small city! We’ve told you a few things about our work in the community – supporting Matt’s Café and St Iltyds Primary School, and we have more local projects coming up. For now, here are some images of work in progress.
