Matt’s Café – helping light the way to charitable giving

We came across Matthew’s House as an organisation as we were canvassing for worthy causes to help with, while we’re working on the Palace Theatre in Swansea. Matt’s Café is one of many expressions of hope led by Matthew’s House which is an initiative of The Hill Church in Swansea, a registered charity.

Matt’s Café is the first registered café on The Real Junk Food Project network in Swansea. It is equipped with first-class facilities with the aim to intercept food waste destined for landfill, and use it to feed people who need it, on a pay-as-you-feel basis.

So we asked if they need a hand around the house, and we were able to do lots of little things, involving lighting tasks:

  • Fixed main entrance external LED sensor floodlight
  • Fixed external light and path lights
  • Fixed tall freestanding lights at the secondary entrance and, key for evenings support
  • Fitted three double sockets onto a stage circuit
  • Trunked three media cables and fitted them in the event hall
  • Installed new sensor LED lights in the Boiler cupboard and Laundry room cupboard
  • Repaired flickering lights in first floor room
  • Installed new high ceiling bulbs and fittings for lighting on the first floor

We were thrilled to be able to shine a bit more light on the great work done on Matthew’s House, and if you’d like to get involved in Matt’s Café or any other of their expressions of Giving Hope, have a look at their website.

The Project Manager at Matthew’s House, Thom Lynch, shared some amazing images of Matt’s Café in action and said:

It’s wonderful having the support of companies and businesses around us. We are truly grateful to everyone who helps us get that little bit stronger and further ahead to where we want to be. This work in particular has given us a great boost ready for when the nights set in and we look to adapt for the next season of support those who need us. Thank you R & M Williams
