Works included the refurbishment of primary public entrance with new ramps at level changes, new restaurant/kitchen area, public wc’s, learning space, shop with independent access, furniture storage and internet workstations, accessible lift, multi-use area, 70 seat cinema and auditorium with kiosk, gallery, function lounge areas, office space and a coast watch observatory located on the top floor of the pavilion with inspiring views over the Severn Estuary and the Bristol Channel.
The project has been extremely successful and well received by the local community and the general public. The long term prospects for the Pavilion are extremely encouraging and very good. The Pavilion’s position on the Esplanade and pier at Penarth is a natural focus for an increasing level of visitors to the seaside Town.
As a community resource the Pavilion supports a long awaited resource and venue for dancing, listening to music, seeing art, a place to learn, to relax, eat and drink, and to go to the first cinema, in Penarth for nearly 50 years.
This project received many awards including RICS National Project of the Year 2014, RICS Wales Community Benefit Award and the project manager received the CIOB Construction Manager of the Year Gold award for the £2m-£4m category.
