Mayhill GP Surgery
The new development was a multi-use building containing a Health Centre and GP surgery managed by NHS, as well as a Day Care Centre managed by City and County of Swansea, and a local private pharmacy. Developed in partnership with health and social care specialist Ashley House, Mayhill GP Surgery replaces the former Mayhill Family Centre, an old converted house, which no longer had the capacity to support its community’s needs.
As the first fully integrated family centre and GP surgery in Wales, the project for us as contractors was particularly interesting and exciting. With each phase of the scheme, we needed key decisions on spatial arrangements and service requirements. Our Designers produced Room Date Sheets that were presented to the end users and ultimately, signed off and incorporated into the design.
Our works included building the entire facility, from foundations to finish and fit-out – ensuring it’s decorated in line with the requirements of each specialised area, and offering the best quality and most durable paints and fittings.
We worked close with the community and surgery staff, to make sure everything they needed was in place for their move and that they could start serving the community as quickly as possible.
We felt entirely supported by the community throughout our time on site, and the site itself received an ‘excellent’ rating from the Considerate Constructors Programme, and the highest safety rating too.
Julie Hayes, Mayhill GP Surgery Manager, said: “R&M Williams’ quality of work at our new surgery building is of a very high standard. R&M Williams went over and above to help us during our stressful transition moving from a very old converted house to our flagship exciting new surgery. Our GPs and staff are very happy with the result after a very long planning period we have a tremendous new state of the art surgery.”
Legacy
The Project was delivered successfully on time and received critical acclaim from the client, users, local community, and designers.
We buried a time capsule created by staff and children into the walls of the new facility. The capsule contained information and artefacts which had been housed in the original Family Centre, as well as more up-to-date items – including a Swansea City programme, artwork created by the kids and a fidget spinner.
