Llandough Hospital Cystic Fibrosis Unit

We delivered the Cystic Fibrosis Unit at Llandough hospital on behalf of Cardiff and Vale Health Board. The works included the extension and conversion of an existing modular three-story building.

The new extension at the front matched the three storeys of accommodation and supported a roof garden area within steel frame.

While we were building extension, a full reconfiguration of the vacant first floor was also underway, all whilst the ground and second floors remained occupied and in operation throughout.

We also delivered completely new Mechanical and Electrical services, with the nature of the unit requiring some specialised fittings including:

  • Medical gases in each room – Vacuum and O2 medi-gas lines
  • LTHW Heating – radiant ceiling panels, all fully controlled via the BMS and conditioned in tandem with the ventilation system
  • Mechanical ventilation – with clean filtered and conditioned supply and extract

As other floors were still in use during our works, we had to innovative solutions to complete works to Health Sector Specifications Design Compliance.  Even so, there were areas

We utilised a soft landings approach to close out the scheme with key hold points on quality to ensure we achieved completion with limited defects, thus achieving the clients desired quality, programme, and budget. The scheme also benefited from £1m charitable fund raised by end users.
