Bristol Airport Fire station
Located next to the runway and the existing training ground, the new station replaces the one built in the 1980s and is designed to accommodate future growth of Bristol Airport.
We also installed a pump chamber and excavated 1.5 miles of trenching to provide foul drainage. The trenching ran under the A38 Motorway, the airport’s Silver Zone Car Park and linked to the Fire station.
As Principal Contractor, we managed the entire operation in the busy live environment of a functioning airport. This included all aspects of the build, from excavation to roofing, from flooring to soundproofing, from plumbing to electrical installation. We also provided runway wig wags and installed crash alarms systems that linked through to the terminal’s communications tower.
This challenging project showcases our capability and innovative thinking when delivering cutting-edge builds within the confines of a secure and constantly working environment, providing a pivotal part of airport infrastructure.
Airports present many challenges which aren’t normally encountered by the general contractor, especially when delivering a high-profile projects, on time and within budget.
